Death/Necromantic magic caster.
In Diablo 2 and Guild Wars this is the Necromancer. In Star War: Knights of the Old Republic 2, this is the Sith Lord. In DnD, this is the Wizard, focused on the Necromancy school of magic. Basically I like playing as the true power

I've always gone for a caster type class. It was only in GW, with the Mesmer class, that I really found the 'niche' class that I've always been looking for in RPGs.

I've been working with the same "character" for years and across many different RPGs. The profession and role within the team may have changed from game to game, but the general appearance and personality traits have stayed more or less the same.

I'm the same, ALWAYS a necro in D2, and having a Necro is Guild Wars made me love the game so much more, if I was playing a game without a necro it would always be a black mage.
Sins are nice, I could never find myself having a good time with a warrior though - a lot of the time it seems like no challenge for me though guild wars seems to balance it out and it's actually a semi-enjoyable class.

I've always loved to cast magic. First character was a monk and second was an elementist.

Almost always a frontline character, almost always a female. My first character in GW was a warrior/mage (until I figured out that combo doesn't really work well in GW). My warrior females are always named Jade or a very close derivative (Jada).
I have 8 toons in GW and each is a different primary, but I keep going back to my warrior. Jada is the toon with the pimped out HoM, and it's her bloodline that will continue in GW2.

From Morrowind, Oblivion, Perfect World, Shaiya...always the same: an archer/ranger, typically female. Sometimes I find I even try to manifest this character in other games, favoring bows when I can. So, I'm sure there are a few of us out there who have dabbled with something else from time to time, but always return to the same style of play. How many of you seem to ALWAYS gravitate back to the same character type? Warrior, caster and whatnot...And...Is it because you like the way those characters look, their role or do you really want to be Legolas, Sir Gallahad, Merlin, Robin Hood, The Gray Mouser, LeeeeeeeeeRoy Jeeeeeeenkiiiins!!! Thor, Roscoe P. Coaltrain, and the like? How many have even gone so far as to use the same name?

I haven't played that many games really but I always favour a warrier/ranger who can cast spells too. Therefore in Diablo I chose the Paladin and in Guild Wars my first character is a ranger/elementalist with whom I have also a sword and shield as a weapon set

I've generally favored the role of a caster. Diablo 2 got me hooked on the Necromancer role and I've stuck with that since.

I also always use to play the same class in all role playing games I play. Maybe because you just feel more comfortable with the same thing :P

Varies by the incentives the game sets up. I've played a lot of heals in GW and I NEVER play that. But healing is relatively overpowered in this game; it has to be, due to the effort to create lengthy, tactical PvP combat. Playing Ele/Necro can be fun, but not as much so as in other games' PvE. (They're both interesting in PvP.)
In Oblivion I sneak up on things and then hack them into bits, because sneaking is overpowered (and chameleon is cheats).
In KOTOR I ran a single-saber Guardian, because defense was imba. I also ran a Force Storm character because going Emperor on everything in sight is fun.
In Baldur's Gate and NWN I ran a Sorcerer, because tactical flexibility is win and blowing up everything in sight is fun.
In Diablo and Diablo 2 I ran the Sorcs, because teleport is a massive time saver. Also, click-spamming Chain Lightning and Nova is fun.

I prefer rangers/archers/beastmasters.
Basically if it has a bow and be a beastmaster, I'm content.

I tend to find certain play styles are more fun for certain games. In GW I have played all the classes but generally find the warriors to be best suited for me when I am leading a party and casters best when I let others take on the role.
Many of the games I've played haven't had the freedom of choice that GW has so your kinda locked into what ever style of char the game allows you.

Uh, guys...
I don't think the OP is asking "what kind of characters you usually play," I'm pretty sure he's asking if you've used the same characters in other places. Pretty much everyone is saying "yeah I play mages," or "I play warriors" or whatever else--guys: those aren't characters, they're character types!

My "horseman of war" name was first used in City of Heroes... for the whole 3 days I played that game.... not exactly original, but it is mine.

Of course I am!
If the game was a class or profession or skill that can Nuke, Charr, Burn, Consume and Ter to pieces enemies with skills that go 'BOOM'. That's the character I will make.

Fine, whatever. I'll go kill myself now for missing a sentence in the OP. Feel better about yourself?
I didn't really think "what kind of character do you play" made for a very interesting topic, so I assumed (silly me) that the OP wasn't looking for the banal conversation we ended up with. Running the same characters from game to game is a more interesting phenomenon to me than running the same "types." I think it's a pretty well-known fact that most people have gameplay preferences, and the game in question doesn't usually dictate them (meaning it stays the same from game to game). I assumed he was asking about something that was actually halfway interesting. Guess I was wrong.
